My Family

My great grandfather Edward Jerman (1873-1943) married Sarah Anne Ingram (1873-1933) at Cwmbelan, near Llanidloes, in 1895. They started their married life at Cwmdu, Llanidloes, and are shown above in about 1901, with the first two of their six children, (Edward) Ivor and Edna.  They spent most of their married life at Chapel House, Llanidloes.

My paternal grandmother, Mary Enid Jerman was their youngest daughter, born in 1908.  The portrait below, showing five of eventually six children, was taken about 1912.  Edna and Ivor are standing at the back

The children: REAR L-R: Edna Mfwany Jerman; Edward Ivor Jerman; FRONT L-R: Olwen Elizabeth Jerman, Daniel Ewart Jerman, Mary Enid Jerman.   One further son, (George) Russell, was born in 1915.

The 1963 portrait below, taken at Tan-y-Gorn, Llanidloes, shows:

REAR L-R Daniel Ewart Jerman, Edward Ivor Jerman, George Russell Jerman

FRONT L-R Olwen Elizabeth Evans (nee Jerman); Edna Myfanwy Jerman; Mary Enid Jones (nee Jerman)

From the turn of one century to another's, this family's lives neatly encapsulate the experience of the 20th century and epitomise some of the momentous changes that took place in that period.  The six children lived all their lives very close to their birth-place; all are buried there close to their parents.
